Parting Shot "What I Think" (Not "What I Know" As That's Presumptuous Given There Are No Certitudes)

For this final post (see previous entry) I was going to title it "what I know" but as one gets older one realises the futility of such a statement as, apart from one or two certainties, what one knows (speaking for myself anyway) at  any one time, often turns out to be utterly wrong in due course.

So here are the two "what I know" items which are always right and unchanging.

"Love is all you need". And love sustains, gives peace and is one of the few things that the more you give/get there is no point of satiety.

Christ is the fountain of pure love as is the Holy Spirit. Years ago I remember Malcolm Muggeridge stating, at the height of the Mao Little red Book craze which swept China and liberal bastions world-wide "Nothing is more certain that in due course Mao will go from being adulated to being reviled. That is the fate of all such "leaders" throughout history. And, throughout history Jesus's truth continues on."

Being an unreconstructed liberal at the time I thought that those were the words of a doddery old fool but, he was of course quite correct (one could add Saddam/Gaddafi/Pol Pot etc etc to a seemingly endless list.)

Einstein said, I believe, that whatever one could say about Napoleon there could be no argument that the world "would have been better off if he had never been born" words which, surely, no one could apply to Jesus.

Political blogging, unless one is possessed of a special moral fiber, is detrimental to one's spirit. I find the comments by partisans on sites they don't agree with seem to be getting more vile, fanatical, one-eyed, and distasteful. This is especially so where Sarah Palin is concerned.

Why people should be so horrendous in their words about this person is beyond my understanding. She holds no power or office and if she says anything the most incredible rants follow. there are numbers of blogs totally dedicated to destroying her, and her family in the most crude and vicious and preposterous language imaginable.

Clearly there is a sickness is society and I am at a loss to understand it or see any remedy except for people undergoing an inner change by adhering to the only one who can bring such a change about. But that takes the free will we have been given by grace and one wonders whether the desire to exercise it exists in so many.

This aspect of blogging is one reason why I am taking a hiatus as I struggle to keep myself apart from such intense partisanship and it would be easy to succumb.

In the realm of "I believe" rather than "I know" I will put that in general private enterprise does better than government in picking winners and if private enterprise gets it wrong then it was not taxpayers money that was lost  just risk money.

In a caring society there is a role for government in assuring the basics of life e.g. a safety net, security in old age, and provision for basic services (water etc), environmental protection without going to absurd lengths, education and the protection of children. I know that life commences at fertilization and that it is sacred.

There is no such thing as a free lunch is the only financial statement that transcends all the gobbledygook that issues from the myriad of financial commentators. If governments spend more than they take in then there will be inflation. If the reserve bank lowers interest rates then there will be speculation and inflation.

Time and time again we have seen that the "cure" is worse than the disease" and the pain of letting market forces do their job within the business cycle is the correct one.

The public is partly at fault of course when there is economic dislocation, as they are addicted to the quick fix, but perhaps this latest recession, which followed on from the loosening of credit by the RB will have made the lesson clear.

And finally, family is the core of society and individual well being. Everything that can be done to nurture it is of transcending value.

God bless all
Michael Joseph.

Taking Time Off-Cordial Thanks To All & Esp. Palin Supporters Who Visited This Site

This site has primarily been a Palin  focused site. There have been the occasional forays into areas of culture, sports and what-not but the overwhelming number of articles posted (674 this year across all subjects) have been about Palin and to promote those values, political, religious, ethical that she represents.

With the announcement that she will not run the main focus is thus taken away and I don't pretend to have enough insight, knowledge and intellectual depth to sustain this site writing on the arts etc. I considered the remaining potential Republican candidates and believe that Newt Gingrich stands head and shoulders above the field and, for those who will vote, I commend him to them. However, for me, the same intensity of support that I had for Palin, to the point of writing a daily post about her, is just not there for Newt. Certainly he inspires but for me no one will ever inspire like Palin.

I personally may vote if Gingrich is the nominee, but if anyone else is I will write in Palin as I have previously posted a number of times-even if she endorses a candidate.

Thus without enough Palin centered potential articles to write I will cease to post here, but  of course if the convention is unable to make a decision due to no candidate having enough support and it turns to Palin, or if she is chosen as the VP candidate I will recommence writing.

The total views are approaching 133,000 which, given the comparative short time this site has existed, and the time it takes to get known, shows the interest there has been in Palin.

The 100k mark was reached only a few months ago and the views have increased by a third since then, so in fact the Palin interest actually accelerated. I noticed however, that since her decision not to run the views have dropped off markedly, which is of course only to be expected.

To nearly everyone who dropped by, and especially the 22 who subscribe my sincere thanks. Frankly it has been an honor that 22 people would care about what I think, and again, thanks and God bless. I have one more parting shot which is a "what I think" which hopefully folks might enjoy.

Gingrich Ties Cain 1st In Maryland GOP Straw Poll. Another Indication Of Newt's Inexorable Rise

From Ellicot City Maryland Howard County Republican Club. A small poll but yet another indicative instance of which way the wind is blowing. the heralds soon to be results from upcoming major polls and eventually the headline will be "Gingrich in first place in major poll'

Cain, Gingrich Tie In Howard County Mock GOP Caucus

Republican presidential candidates Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich tie for first place in the first-ever Howard County Republican Club mock presidential caucus. Candidate Mitt Romney came in third.

Prior to the Howard County Republican Club’s first-ever mock GOP presidential caucus, club president Jeff Robinson had a message to send to prospective candidates.

“Whoever wins better take it seriously,” Robinson said. “Howard County is a bellwether. It’s kind of the New Hampshire of Maryland. People need to pay some attention.”

After nearly two hours of arm pulling, political wrangling, stump speeches, and heckling, club voters picked presidential candidates Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich as their choice for the GOP nomination; the candidates tied with 16 votes each. Mitt Romney came in third place with 11 votes.

At the moment, Cain is leading in the national polls with Romney trailing close behind.

The Howard County mock caucus was held Thurs., Oct 27, in the Ellicott City VFW hall.

During the night, representatives from all but two of the campaigns were on hand to lobby for their candidates. Those candidates who did not have representation were Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum, both of whom lost in the first round of the caucus garnering little to no support.

About 60 people showed up to the event in Ellicott City; 43 were voting members of the club.

Robinson said he organized the caucus as a means of getting locals more actively involved in the upcoming election.

“You read about the Iowa caucus every four years and yet you never actually see it in play,” he said. “A lot of us are political geeks so we decided, ‘Let’s put on a show—let’s see if it works.'”

During the caucus, the Cain camp was the most boisterous, often resorting to chants to persuade undecided caucus voters.

Meanwhile, during the night's pre-caucus speeches, given by the candidates’ representatives, there were some harsh words for President Barack Obama.

“Newt is the smartest guy in the room, and the best debater,” Rosenberg said. “He’s Obama’s worst nightmare.”

In the meantime, after the caucus finished up, an excited Robinson noted of the outcome, “It’s about what we expected it to be. If anything it shows the intensity of the individual support of the candidates.”

Idiotic "Immoral Minority Palin Hate Site Calls Speaker Boehner "Senator"

UPDATE:They have changed "Senator" to "He". But, too late-the screen capture doesn't lie!

To show how stupid the Palin Derangement Syndrome and left -wing hate site
Immoral Minority is see if you can guess what is wrong with their latest headline (hint; it is to do with what office Speaker Boehner holds)

And these are the people who pounced on any little speech flubb that Palin may have made, and who promoted the insane "Trig Truther, Sarah Palin is not the mother of Trig" fantasies.

Left Rips Into Gingrich-Surest Sign of His Ascendancy

For months, during the shooting star candidacies of first Bachmann, then Perry and now Cain, the media had not only ignored newt Gingrich but basically had written him off.

After a brief flurry of attacks against him for such silliness as his account at Tiffany's (the media did not care to go into any depth regarding candidate Obama's home purchase with the aid of a criminal which was much more significant) that was about it. When some of Gingrich's campaign team criticized him and his poll ratings were under 5% even the "progressive" left stopped attacking him.

The surest sign that Gingrich's star is in the ascendancy is that he is, all of a sudden, under attack.

The execrable ultra-leftist "Wonkette" site has dredged up Tiffany's again  and, as is their stock in trade, has used the most vile, disgusting and sexists language imaginable which I won't deign to repeat.

Yahoo's "The Ticket" political site has run a damn with faint praise article which, in between the odd highlight, basically follows the tenor of the lead headline " Newt Gingrich is back with a vengeance. But does it matter?"

After illustrating the, unavoidable, positive news that Gingrich has ridden to new heights in the polls, is starting to raise money and has done well in the debates (actually remarkably well which is a key to his rise, and success which being noted and complimented on by Sarah Palin  has also helped significantly) the article drags in a previous Gingrich advisor for two paragraphs of deflating commentary.

What this proves is that not only the conservative side is starting to take note of Gingrich, as reflected in conservative polls and outright support (as per this blog etc) but that the MSM has woken up and the left will only attack those it perceives as a threat. These attacks are of course the highest compliment to Gingrich.

As the news of the new Fox poll which confirms Gingrich's strong third place at 12% (from 3% in August!) standing filters out, and his ascendancy continues, expect nothing less than a full bore attack on him from a worried left.

They will recognize the danger he represents to them as Gingrich is the only  experienced candidate who can bring together all wings of the party in unity to take on President Obama.

Texans for Sarah Palin Endorses Newt Gingrich For President In Momentous Announcement

Here is, below, the formal announcement by the founder of Texans for Sarah Palin website, Mr. Josh Painter that he has gone all in for Newt Gingrich. He has created a new site specifically for that purpose entitled
Reagan-Palin Conservatives for Newt Gingrich  as I have at Palin Supporters For Gingrich 2012

Please, after reviewing Mr. Painter's cogent and deeply thought out reasons for supporting Newt, have a visit to his new site (and mine if you wish) where you will find a host a relevant information which supports this decision.

I believe what the choice is boils down to Romney versus Obama, which is no choice, or, failing a Palin run, Gingrich versus Obama which is a vital choice for the future of America. Only Gingrich from the current crop of candidates has the experience and the debating skills and the credibility in policy alternatives to take the fight to Obama. As a Palin conservative I believe he deserves your support and commend him to you based on  policy-not emotion.

Newt Gingrich for the GOP Presidential Nomination

And a new blog to support his candidacy
*
Your editor has been evaluating the field of announced candidates for the GOP presidential nomination for the past two weeks. It took nearly that long to even get started on the process while reeling from Sarah Palin's October 5 announcement that she wasn't going to run. As I stated a couple of days ago, I was leaning toward Newt Gingrich. After weighing all the evidence, I'm now fully on board with the former Speaker of the House.

This blog is dedicated to advocating the Reagan conservative principles which Gov. Palin embraces, and it will continue to do so. As I have promised, as long as there is news to report about the governor, and as long as I am able, I'll report it here. I won't use this site to further campaign for Newt Gingrich beyond the occasional link or widget. Instead, I've created a new blog for that purpose, Reagan-Palin Conservatives for Newt Gingrich. The reasons why I'm endorsing Newt and will work for his nomination are laid out there in the first post.

The bottom line is I can't sit around to wait for Sarah Palin to endorse a candidate for president, nor do I believe that she would want me to do so. She may not even make an endorsement before the primary race is settled. I'm a Palin supporter, not a Palinbot, and the same independent thinking that led me to back her in the first place compels me work hard to send the Obamas back to Chicago. I'll continue to support Gov. Palin as she fights to restore the republic Barack Obama seems bent on destroying. But I also have to get about the business of helping the candidate I believe is best qualified to make Obama a one-term president while carrying the Reagan-Palin banner, and I've concluded that Speaker Gingrich is that candidate. Whether you agree or disagree with my assessment, I hope you'll continue to visit here. And if you agree, I hope to see you at the new site as well.

Gingrich Rockets Up 16.5 Points In Hot Air Poll. Tied For Second Amongst Leading Candidates.

Here's what HOT AIR has to say about Newt Gingrich's remarkable poll rise;

"Over 5000 readers voted. Herman Cain continues to hold the lead, although he’s slid a little in the last couple of weeks. Rick Perry is still in second, but losing ground rapidly to Newt Gingrich. When Gingrich rose from 2.5% to 5% between the last two polls, I knew something was up, and suddenly he’s Hot Air’s #3 pick for President."

I knew something was up before that! See earlier poll results AT THIS LINK

To rise from 2.5% to 16% in two polls is a massive jump and even more impressive is his being tied for second place 22% amongst the top five candidates.

I call Newt's rise inexorable, just as Cain's decline will be, and as the campaign develops it will be clear that Newt is the only viable candidate now that Palin is not running.

It is no coincidence that his rise comes shortly after Palin praised his debate performance
Should she formally endorse him then he would rocket to the top of the polls permanently

This remarkable rise of 19.5 points amongst the leading candidates came-with no coincidence whatsoever, after Sarah praised his performance in the debates. The HA poll is amongst conservative activists and Sarah always was at the top of the poll-it is clear where his support has come from.

Palin's Blue Suede Shoe's In Tupel-OH MY! And A Message Of The Two "Kings" Of America

At The People for Palin  (LINK)site the delightful Missy has a wonderfully descriptive review  ("Don't Step On Her Blue Suede Shoes") of Sarah Palin's address to the "Women of Joy" conference in Tupelo Mississippi.

This is  by far the fullest overview I have seen and I am truly grateful to  have Missy's permission to bring it to the attention of readers of this site. Please note that the photograph's and the article are her copyright and if people wish to reproduce them they must seek her permission as a courtesy at least.

Sarah received the key to the City at the event and spoke of the true King of us all as her inspiration, and also did a tribute to Elvis, the King of Rock n, Roll from Tupelo in her own imaginative way, with her striking blue suede shoes.

Rather than publish excerpts I would suggest that readers click on the link above to get the true flavor of the event-all the color and joy and inspiration and read what you don't see in the MSM-the powerful interaction between Palin and those who see her in her true reality-undistorted by the leftist filter.

Enjoy the article at the link and enjoy the photo's. I don't care that the main picture is reproduced so large that it bleeds into the side of the blog-it is worth  the page being unstructured as the photo gives a hint of the grand atmosphere and of course-those shoes!. Thanks Missy.

Progressive Site's Surprising Prediction;Palin Will Be President In 2016

A website Oped News (LINK) which promotes itself as "Progressive-Tough-Liberal" has a post up which credits Sarah Palin with hard headed, taking the long view, political savvy.

The post titled "Palin's Patient Pragmatism" surprisingly sets out a scenario which ends with her being elected in a landslide in 2016 is well worth reading in its entirety at the link above

"Gov. Palin knows the winning play is also the patient one. It should be relatively easy, with the political savvy House and Senate Republicans have already shown they possess, to continue hamstringing President Obama's stabs at the "hope and change" he sold to voters in 2008. A patriot like Sarah Palin knows the national political stage is set for a patient pragmatist. And in about five years President Palin will be rewarded."

The gist of the article is that president Obama, for all his perceived unpopularity, is still, according to the author, odds on to win in 2012-especially given his massive financial war chest.

It is suggested that Palin recognizes that and has strategically decided to bide her time for the 2016 election. Further, given that the GOP will either control both houses of congress, or have enough in the senate to block any Obama plans, the Obama administration will basically be a lame duck from the start and if the economy has not improved the Republicans will win in a landslide in 2016-with Palin as president.

An interesting perspective from an unexpected source., especially as most "progressives" have written off Palin. History shows that political opponents do so at their peril.

"Orlando Jones Quoted As Calling For "Liberals To Kill Sarah Palin"-FBI To Charge Him? Fat Chance.

UPDATE;A comment from someone who called Jones out on his statement-and Jones blamed the conservative for "violent rhetoric"!! Liberals, especially actors, live in a bizzare world

"I called Orlando Jones out on this. I asked when did joking about killing someone become funny and not violent rhetoric.

He said that my anger over what he termed as an inane joke was violent rhetoric.

Yes...my daring to say that joking about killing Palin was wrong and needed to be addressed...was violent and dangerous and scary."

According to The (LINK) Hollywood Reporter actor Orlando Jones issued a public call for liberals to "Kill Sarah Palin" now that Gadaffi has been killed.

When confronted by his statement on twitter Jones was stated to not apologize-rather he just told people if that if they don't like it don't read it.

Jones's murderous advice comes in a long line of Hollywood Palin hate madness, including the likes of Maher.

The bottom line is that if a conservative publicly called for the president to be so handled the FBI would be on them like a ton of bricks-but a conservative woman-that's fair game.

Palin TV's Founder Announces; "I'll Do My Part To Make Sure Gingrich Is President"

SHEYA who was a driving force behind so many high profile sites for Sarah Palin-as stated; " I set up, maintained and financed multiple Palin support sites including PalinTV, Conservatives4Palin, Organize4Palin, Palin4America." made a dramatic announcement on site;
At this link in a post entitled;

"Newt Gingrich For President"

Here are just three salient passages, but to get the whole, striking, erudite, and well thought out reasoning click on the link above.
"Until recently the idea of me supporting someone other than Governor Palin for President in 2012 was unthinkable. Ever since the 2008 election I spent most of my day defending and correcting Governor Palin’s record in preparation of her running for president. I set up, maintained and financed multiple Palin support sites including PalinTV, Conservatives4Palin, Organize4Palin, Palin4Ameirca. With some websites, it was public knowledge that I was operating them; with others, to this day only a handful of people are aware that I was behind them. I spent the better part of three years and thousands of dollars hoping for a President Palin in 2012.

Newt Gingrich is a man of ideas, is smart, has solutions, knows how the world works, and has leadership qualities. No one can argue that Gingrich is not qualified to be president. I can see Gingrich in the situation room making tough decisions without needing 16 hours to adjust or calculate how it will affect him politically. A President Gingrich would be feared by dictators and respected by our allies.

But until then, I’ll do my part to make sure that when I wake up on November 7th 2012 Newt Gingrich is our new elected president and when that happens, I for one will feel secure, will breathe a sigh of relief, and will be truly hopeful that America will rise again and a brighter future awaits the world. "

This announcement mirrors my new site" Palin Supporters For Gingrich 2012" and also mirrors a substantial groundswell for Gingrich amongst Palin supporters which is readily apparent at such sites as Conservatives4Palin.

Josh Painter at Texans for Sarah Palin also has the link up and has had some solid Gingrich articles recently.

What Palin supporters see in Newt Gingrich
The Logical Second Choice
*
A growing number of Sarah Palin supporters, having finally come to terms with her decision not to run for president in 2012, are now beginning to give Newt Gingrich a second look. Many of the Paliniste never had a second choice in mind, so the process to find another presidential candidate to back has been a slow and deliberate one. Though Sarah's Army surveys the field of announced candidates and finds every one of them lacking in comparison to the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, some have concluded that the former Speaker of the House, more so than any of his Republican rivals, is the one they can settle for.

Already two noteworthy bloggers who have been strong advocates for Gov. Palin have endorsed Gingrich. Sheya, whose Palin TV website specializes in making Palin-related videos available to her supporters, endorsed Speaker Gingrich today on his personal blog, Sheya.com. M. Joseph Sheppard, whose support of Gov. Palin has been unyielding at A Point Of View, rolled out an additional blog, Palin Supporters For Gingrich 2012, late last week. It is important to point out that both bloggers remain staunch supporters of Sarah Palin. They have not retired their pro-Palin websites, but are expressing their support of Gingrich for president in the context of their general support for Gov. Palin and the principles she advances. Even Stephen Bannon, director of the landmark Sarah Palin documentary "The Undefeated," devoted a segment of his KABC radio program "The Victory Sessions" to a Newt Gingrich interview Sunday.

Why Gingrich, and why not one of the other declared GOP presidential canidates? There are several reasons.

Reagan Conservatism

Like Sarah Palin and more so than any of his rivals for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, Newt Gingrich is a Reagan conservative. Unlike Gov. Palin, who was just sixteen years old when Reagan was first elected president, Gingrich had already served the first of ten terms in the U.S. Congress and had the opportunity to work with Reagan, which he did for a period of eight years. There was a cross-pollination of ideas between Gingrich and Reagan which made a conservative out of Gingrich and provided President Reagan with ideas for his reelection campaign in 1984, not the least of which were the "Opportunity Society" principles developed by Gingrich and some of his House colleagues.

After Reagan left office and the Republican Party began to drift back toward the center under President George H. W. Bush, Gingrich went against the grain, rising to his first leadership position in the House, Minority Whip. Gingrich continued to advance Reagan principles after Bill Clinton won the presidency in 1992, co-authoring the Contract With America in 1994 and winning election to the powerful position of Speaker of the House by his colleagues in 1995. Palin supporters looking for the Reagan conservative in the 2012 field of GOP presidential contenders will inevitably conclude that Newt Gingrich is the pick of the litter.

Experience and Accomplishment

Like Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich has a long record of experience and accomplishment, though the achievements of the two were reached from paths that were quite different. The Palin resume shows two terms as a city councilwoman, two terms as a mayor, a stint as a state oil and gas commissioner, and a partial term as a governor. Gingrich's governmental experience came from twenty years in the U.S. House of Representatives, but he rose to the highest leadership position in that body. In addition, his resume is fortified with experience as a professor of history and geography. He has also taught military and foreign policy courses at the U.S. Air Force Academy and the National Defense University. Gingrich was a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and remains a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution. Like Gov. Palin, speaker Gingrich is a best-selling author, and he has also produced several public policy documentary films with David Bossie and Citizens United.

Both Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich are reformers, and both can be proud of accomplishments borne of their shared Reagan conservatism and political activism. After making reforms in the way Alaska does business and cleaning up her state's Republican Party, Gov. Palin has been working to achieve national reform. She helped elect a number of conservative candidates in the 2010 midterm election and is significantly shaping the current political debate though her public appearances and written opinion. As House Speaker, Gingrich is largely responsible for reforming the way the federal government administers welfare, and his negotiations with President Clinton resulted in the first balanced federal budget that had been seen in thirty years. Both Palin and Gingrich have proved that they can work with the opposing party to achieve reforms that benefited their constituents.

What's not to like?

Newt Gingrich is not without his political sins. His endorsement of Dee Dee Scozzafava in New York's 23rd Congressional District has perhaps earned him most of the ire of conservatives he has suffered. The former Speaker has acknowledged that he made a mistake and moved on. He's a smart politician, and we certainly hope that he has learned a lesson from the experience. To be fair, Sarah Palin has made some endorsements that also angered conservatives, most notably backing Carly Fiorina over Chuck DeVore for the U.S. Senate from California.

Gingrich has also expressed regret for making a commercial with Nancy Pelosi on the issue of climate change. He's hardly alone as a conservative who fell for the left's tactic of using thousands of scientists to push the man-made global warming myth. And, yes, Sarah Palin's position on this issue is one which can best be described as "evolving." Conservatives were no less angered by Gingrich's working relationship with Hillary Clinton, as the two have served together on a couple of commissions. Though the former speaker was largely responsible for the defeat of then-Senator Hillary Clinton's universal health care plan, he offered both praise and criticism of Clinton during her run against Obama for the Democrat Party presidential nomination in 2008. Again, Gov. Palin has praised Hillary for cracking the political "glass ceiling" for women, and a number of Clinton's strongest supporters have also been supportive of Sarah Palin. In the final analysis, very few conservatives would be able to pass an ideological purity test, and those who can don't tend to win national elections. Even Ronald Reagan made a deal with the Democrats that resulted in a tax increase, and he came away from the experience chagrined, but much wiser.

We won't dwell on Gingrich's personal baggage, only say let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

The High Road and Respect for Sarah Palin

Of the announced presidential candidates, Gingrich is the most prominent one who has refrained from engaging in petty bickering with his rivals. His criticism of the other candidates has been rare, principled and always limited to issue positions. Taking the high road is earning him considerable respect and helping his polling numbers to improve significantly. This stands in marked contrast to the way many of the others, especially Rick Perry and Mitt Romney, have attacked each other. Like Sarah Palin, Gingrich mostly finds something positive to say about his competitors, even when he states his differences with them on policy positions.

Unlike his rivals, he has always been supportive of Gov. Palin, even during those rare moments when he offered constructive criticism. Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul and Gary Johnson have publicly dissed her. Though publicly insisting that Palin is their friend, Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry have allowed surrogates to attack her, and both have had supporters spread patently false rumors that Gov. Palin was on the vege of giving their candidate her endorsement. A number of Perry supporters, through op-eds published by sites such as RedState.com and Ace of Spades HQ, as well as ill-conceived messages sent via Twitter, have virtually guaranteed that Palin backers will never throw their support to the Texas governor. Gingrich has often publicly praised Gov. Palin, and there have been no substantial anti-Palin undercurrents from his supporters. It's clear that the former speaker is not only wooing the Palin troops, but realizes that he must earn their support.

Bottom Line

It's not clear if Gov. Palin will make an endorsement in the GOP presidential primary, even before the RNC convention next August. What is clear, at least to those Palin supporters who do their homework, is that when the records, policy positions and treatment of Sarah Palin by the announced GOP presidential candidates are stacked up next to each other, only Newt Gingrich stands out as the real Reagan conservative among them. While this writer is not yet officially endorsing the former Speaker, we are leaning in his direction. At this time we can see no other logical second choice for Gov. Palin supporters.

A group known as the Extraordinary Women Association hosted the event where Palin spoke before a packed house.

Many said Palin gave the crowd what they were looking for.

"Thank you so much, Mississippi!" a jubilant Sarah Palin said as she took the stage.

Palin brought her unique brand of charisma to a filled-to-capacity Bancorpsouth Arena.

She kicked things off with a reference to Elvis.

"It's a good thing that in honor of Elvis, I got to wear my daughter Bristol's blue suede shoes, and I got to wear them for you all," Palin said. "[Bristol] got 'em when she was in L.A. on Dancing with the Stars."

Bristol didn't make the trip; however, her husband Todd did.

This was the culmination of a two-day conference in which over 7,000 people -- mostly women -- listened to Palin speak on matters both spritual and political.

"Everyone has challenges. Nobody's road is easy. Everyone in your relationships, in your workplace, in your churches, in your neighborhoods, maybe within your own family, a health battle, maybe a battle trying to keep your home. Maybe somebody in your family [is] trying to keep a job," Palin said. "Everybody is going through battles; mine just happen to get exaggerated or just downright made up, and their splashed across a tabloid or [television show]."

On the political side of things she, like an evangelist, asked the Extraoridnary Women's group to do what she called extraordinary things to save the country.

"I do not believe that we shall fulfill our destiny as a nation that puts its trust in God if we just sit back and watch some fundamental transformation of our country. Turning it into something that is good and just and right and free in America [should be the focus]," Palin said.

Those in attendance were spellbound by Palin's speech.

"I like her outgoing personality and her aggresive spirit," Corinth resident Sherry Jobe said. "And the fact that she does not back down about her being a Christian, her belief."

Philadelphia resident Laura Renfrow was asked if she'd vote for Palin if the former Alaska governor ran for president.

"Yes, I would," Renfrow said. "I hope she'll run. I do."

Palin also received a key to the city from Tupelo City Council President Fred Pitts.

These days she participates in political event programming for FOX News Channel.

TUPELO - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived in Tupelo in blue suede shoes, much to the delight of an estimated 6,500 fans.

Palin wasted no time Saturday at the BancorpSouth Arena invoking the name of Tupelo's native son, Elvis, as she began her hour-long speech that mingled personal religious testimony with political and social commentary.

"This (Elvis') story is an all-American story that shows you anything is possible and you never know where you'll end up in this blessed land," Palin said.

The 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee took the stage at 3 p.m. as the keynote speaker for the Extraordinary Women Conference, an event that began Friday evening and featured various Christian female authors and speakers.

Women young and old hurried forward to snap photographs as Palin stood on a stage awash in pink and blue light.

Palin told of giving her life to Christ at a Bible camp when she was a girl. Her perspective on world affairs changed, she said, when she became a mother, a point she teased out in a speech delivered to almost all women.

She was reminded of scripture, Palin said, upon learning at age 44 that she was pregnant with her son, Trig.

"I laughed. I remember another Sarah who laughed, too," Palin said, referring Genesis 18:12, where the wife of Abraham laughs at the suggestion that she will have a child in her old age.

With clenched fists, an impassioned Palin said abortion is a great evil and that children, like Trig, who was born with Down syndrome, remind society how to be compassionate and loving.

Tupelo was one of only four stops on the nationwide Extraordinary Women tour at which Palin will speak. Organizers said they chose the All-America City because Palin's appeal among conservatives in the area remains strong, even though she announced earlier this month she would not seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

The atmosphere at the BancorpSouth Arena was palpably feminine. Shanna Berryhill made the drive over from Pope to enjoy the company of other Christian ladies.

"It's a spiritual rest," said Berryhill, who's husband and two kids gave her the afternoon off. "It really ignites my heart for God," she said shortly before Palin took the stage.

Palin repeatedly emphasized that the United States is a Christian nation, one based on "God-fearing, Judeo-Christian principles."

"We cannot retreat, ladies. We have to reload with truth," Palin said to thunderous applause, drawing a parallel between the Tea Party movement and the salt and light of which Jesus speaks in Matthew 5.

Lori Zustiak of Nashville sat rocking her young son near the entrance to the arena as Palin finished on stage.

"Governor Palin is just very inspiring," Zustiak said. "She reminds us of what America used to be."
