Gingrich Fires Up Chanting New York City Crowd Of 800

Tom Wrobleski, political editor of the Staten Island Advance, reports on the the former Speaker's New York town hall event:
GOP presidential front-runner New Gingrich electrified a crowd of nearly 800 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield, today, slamming Democratic President Barack Obama and praising Republican Herman Cain, who suspended his White House campaign.

Gingrich also met privately with Staten Island political power brokers, and picked up the endorsement of former GOP Rep. Vito Fossella.

Speaking at a town hall meeting sponsored by the Staten Island Tea Party, Gingrich said that the 2012 presidential race was "the most important election since 1860," when Republican Abraham Lincoln ascended to the White House on the cusp of the Civil War.

"Eight years of Barack Obama will come close to breaking us as a country, Gingrich said. "It really matters that we win."

Gingrich said he would challenge Obama to a series of Lincoln-Douglas style debates if nominated.
