Newsweek Poll Another Lib Election Night Casualty

Newsweek, the failed liberal distortion rag, which was sold for $1 to keep it out of conservative hands was yet another liberal casualty on election night. If, as is accepted by most, the election result was a referendum on President Obama, then that would have been signalled, surely, in his favorable/unfavorable ratings, which of course it was, as detailed by polling analysis websites.

Newsweek's last President Obama favorable/unfavorable poll was beyond ridiculous giving him a 54% favorable to 40% unfavorable rating +14.

As seen on the Real Clear Politics poll table below this was not only crazily out of line with the Schoen poll, taken around the same time, which had Obama at 42/57-i.e. negative 15, but out of sync with every other major polling firm listed which had Obama below 50% favorable territory, except the equally liberal Washington Post which still had Obama only +5.

You have to question what possible good this distorted, preaching to the choir, echo chamber type of polling does for Newsweek. If they are trying to reestablish  credibility this is hardly the way to go about it. If they are trying to gee up and shore up their supposed "progressive" base-well how did that work our for the previous publishers.

This is nothing new for Newsweek. You have to go back to February 2010 to find a poll, also by Newsweek as it happens, which had Obama at 40% unfavorable (disregarding the equally ridiculous CBS polls which continue on with their distortion unabashed).

Clearly the Newsweek team have learned nothing from their previous disasters and are compounding it under the new publishers by running with a polling firm which seems to provide what they think their customer wants-not what reality is.

The polling firm might draw a lesson from what happened to the Kos pollster who got sacked for providing a continuous series of polls which showed Obama at high levels of support and Democratic candidates polling very highly too. For both the polling firm, and Newsweek whilst they are still in business, it might be better to just report what is actually happening and take of the rose colored glasses before they both fall in a ditch together.

Miller's Desperate Position Is Just Desserts For Not Supporting Palin

The fact that Joe Miller finds himself 13,000 votes plus behind Murkowski  as a write in candidate is a tribute to a disastrously run campaign. To possibly lose an unloseable seat in a safe Republican state takes an effort of uncommon incompetence.

The list of shoot yourself in the foot errors is a long one. Either tweeting yourself or, incredibly giving your "tweeting privileges" to junior staffers (twice) to shoot their mouth off about "measuring the curtains" is amateurish in commission, and showed hubris and arrogance in regards to the message of the tweets, which were grist to the opposition in creating a poor image for Miller.

Having uncontrolled support staff handcuff a journalist is, good grief, unforgivable and reinforced the image of arrogance. But the single biggest contribution to Miller's campaign collapse was his treatment of the people who had done so much, in fact everything, to give him the nomination.

Miller was a rank outsider until Todd Palin signalled the Palin's support by attending a primary campaign for him. Sarah Palin's subsequent endorsement was, as Miller acknowledged and was plain to everyone, the only reason he defeated a sitting two term senator.

And how did Miller pay back Sarah? By refusing to straightforwardly answer the simple question "do you think Palin is qualified to be president?" And then to compound what appeared to all a betrayal of the person who made him what he was by answering, when questioned again, by saying that "of course she is qualified on a constitutional basis". Anyone native born and over 35 is so qualified, so his equivocation showed a lack of character which reflected terribly on him. It is an absolute mystery what Miller would have had to gain by not stating his total support for Palin.

When one of his staff, presumably, leaked Todd Palin's totally justified complaint about Miller's shilly shallying and the hurt the Palin's felt that would have reinforced the amateurishness of Miller's campaign and their total lack of judgement and shown dissension in his camp and between him and the Palin's "This is what we have to deal with" he is quoted as saying in response to Todd Palin's rightfully aggrieved email.

The final straw for Alaskan voters must have been when Miller hid his ethics problems which were only forced out of him by a late court ruling. And what was the big deal, that he had tried to juice an online result? If he had addressed this minor matter at the start of the campaign it would have been a one day wonder, if that. But by covering it up it made the offence look worse than it was and reinforced, once again, the image of untrustworthiness.

Miller may somehow pull this election out but even if he does he will be know as the loser who won through the courts or through voters mistakes with their ballots. Certainly any long term future is very much in doubt should he win, and if he loses then he will fade into the obscurity he came from, and deserves, for his treatment of the Palin's. He has, to further compound matters, made a Democratic non-entity, McAdams into someone of note by his poor campaign.

One thing is certain, by his actions, amateurishness and poor treatment of the people who assisted him to the doors of success, which he failed to open, there can be no reflection whatsoever on Sarah Palin. It is his loss so far, not hers.

Similarly there is also no reflection on Palin by O'Donnell's  self-destructive campaign. The Haley's and Ayotte's and others who conducted professional campaigns and were loyal are Palin's true testament from election night. The Palin's support to the end for Miller's campaign is also a tribute to the heights of their character.

Palin's Night Of Triumph: A Collosus Surveys The Battlefield 68% Of Endorsed Candidates Won

Sarah Palin's night of triumph. A political colossus stands, arms akimbo, surveys the battlefield and sounds a note of quiet satisfaction at a job, not yet done, but well started. There are many winners on this election night of triumph-first and foremost the people of America who have spoken loudly, clearly and unmistakeably, that the Obama administration and its enablers, represented by all the defeated Democrat's, have led this great country in the wrong direction.

By voting in so many candidates endorsed by Palin, the nights other winners, they have also indicated that they do not want a return to the politics of old-whether Republican or Democratic. They have endorsed the values of conservatism, true Republicanism and Palinism. Unless the Obama administration takes careful notice of the message delivered so strongly tonight then Palin's election in 2012, should she wish to run, will not be a matter of if, but rather a question of by how much of a landslide.

Here is the list of Palin (the other big winner on the night) endorsed candidates and the result for each. A note on O'Donnell. Her loss was caused by the Republican old guard, especially Rove and Krauthammer, whose credibility and value has been exploded, and by the Republican machine who abandoned her. It is also O'Donnell's fault for not having brought to the fore the matters from her past (which she should have at least briefed Palin on )which were the subject of so much ridicule. If she had addressed them as the follies of youth she could have got out in front of the matter and concentrated on the issues-a lesson learned.

Palin Needs To Have A "Truth Hit Squad" First Up November 3rd

Since the media and some parts of the GOP establishment have signalled that it is all out war on Sarah Palin, in an obvious attempt to preempt any 2012 run, then the strongest counter actions are called for.

Palin supporters should make it the first order of business (after due time spent recovering from election night victory euphoria of course) to create a "Palin Truth In Media" support structure.

This grouping should be composed of activists who will share all media reports about Palin which feature lies "anonymous sources" negative quotes from GOP establishment figures and of course notorious bloggers such as Palingates, Moore and yes Politico etc etc. Fair criticism is fine of course, and welcomed actually as it tempers and focuses but the "crap from bastards" as Palin so rightly put it, has to be stopped in its tracks.

As soon as these items appear there should be a deluge of responses pointing out the lies, distortions and cowardly actions by people, to shamefaced to say what they have purportedly said, in the light of day.

The media have shown, time and time again, that when stood up to they back down and are hesitant to do the same thing again when they know they will be pillared for it.

Unless this action squad is created and is strikingly active Palin will be weighed down under an avalanche of lies which will be unprecedented in political history. For the sake of the new America this must not happen. The remedy is in her supporters hands, they need to grasp it urgently.
