Washington Post Utterly Stuffs Up; "Louisiana fertile Ground for Romney; Could Stop His Southern Slide"

Here is prognosticator extraordinary Aaron Blake writing under Chris Cillizza's "The Fix" Washington Post political column entitled, seriously one presumes, "Why Louisiana could stop Romney's Southern slide"
 AT THIS LINK on the 22nd.

That the Washington Post is so in the tank for the establishment is beyond anyone's doubting, but their dedication to it can lead to some wryly humorous, unintended for them of course, consequences. However, they are highly enjoyable for the rest of us.

Mr.Blake advises inter alia;

"In fact, there is an argument to be made that Louisiana, whose primary is Saturday, is more fertile ground for Romney than any of the six Southern states where he has lost to this point."

He then goes on to give five in-depth reasons, including graphs and quotes, why Romney could find fertile ground.

The column concludes with a statement from a Mr. Lenny Alcivar described as a "GOP strategist" who advises "this is Romney's greatest opportunity to show more strength than the pundits predict."

Clearly the ground was rather stony and infertile, and the "pundits" except those at WashPost, were correct in their prediction-if we consider the actual result;

Romney Etch A Sketch Disaster Unfolding As Santorum/Gingrich Landslides Louisiana?

As I suggested in the previous article represented below the Romney Etch a Sketch disaster will have lasting significance. Conservatives who were wavering in their hesitancy towards Romney, especially after his substantial Illinois victory and  the "electability" argument" would have been disgusted with the apparent hypocrisy on show with the "shake and start over" comment.

The immediate results weren't apparent in Gallup tracking because that takes a while to reflect opinion changes but the, very effective PPP Polling firm picked up the fact that late deciders in Louisiana were breaking substantially to Santorum.

I advised, as per below that I thought that was the first fruits, especially in this conservative state, of the Etch A sketch disaster for Romney. If this is in fact the case and is repeated in ensuing primary voting then Romney  is damaged goods for the general election, should he get the nomination and a brokered convention looks very likely-which should bring a smile to Palin fans.

Voting in Louisiana has Santorum with a massive lead AT THIS LINK 49% to 27% (beating PPP's Poll by 7%) and the combined anyone but Romney vote is a massive 71% with perhaps the more important Santorum/Gingrich vote at 65%-they sure don't want Mr. Etch a Sketch down in La.
**************************************************************************

PPP Polling, which has had a remarkable run of prediction success in recent GOP primary polling just reports AT THIS LINK IN FULL DETAIL)

"Santorum also appears to have the late momentum on his side. Among those who've decided who to vote for in the last few days he's at 47% to just 25% for Romney. That suggests he could end up winning by an ever wider margin than he has in this poll"

Santorum's overall lead is currently 42% to 28%. A number of factors may be contributing to the late Santorum surge, one being a decline in support for Newt Gingrich with his voters moving to some degree to Santorum. But that begs the questions as to why that is happening, if it indeed is.

It might not be because voters are worried that Romney might win as Santorum has always had a safe enough lead in Louisiana, especially with the states conservative and substantial Catholic voters.

One could, perhaps safely, conjecture that the Romney is an Etch a Sketch candidate gaffe by his campaign manager has convinced wavering conservatives who were at the point of being seduced by the media's/Romney's campaign "inevitability/electability argument, that Romney is as they always suspected-i.e. no conservative.

Thus, as I have written previously, the Gaffe marks one of the two most important moments of the campaign. It appears that the voters of Louisiana agree.

This race may well have some time to run and the Etch A Sketch disaster for the Romney team is not going away quickly, no matter how inconsequential Ann Althouse's wishful and dismissive thinking considers it to be.

Cheney has Heart Transplant-Cue 1 Million Leftist Hate "Jokes" In "New Civility" Demonstration

ABC's Jake tapper reports that former VP Dick Cheney has undergone a heart transplant procedure and is recovering AT THIS LINK

Presuming this is correct the leftist hate mobs, Letterman and the other Dem mouthpieces will be huddled with their gag writers to fire off as many "jokes' as they can possibly dream up.

We will see a demonstration of the left's "new civility" as called for by President Obama. In the meantime, just to keep the edge on, Maher calls Palin "an idiot' in his latest ever so clever monologue.

To try and reason with immature jerks, to try and ask for the left to forgo their Alinsky tactics for the sake of a better America is a futile exercise.

Suzi Parker at The Washington Post AT THIS LINK did her very best, but a glance at the leftist hate comments will show the utter futility of trying to reason with them

Palin sums it up, as usual, clearly and directly;

Sarah Palin went on Hannity tonight to discuss the hateful rhetoric from the left and why the leaders from the left are not only mum about it, but continue to work with these hateful leftists and even take their money, all the while they try and silence the right for much less. She even calls out the president over not apologizing for his Special Olympicscomment

Will September 1st See A Launch Of "Palin 2016" Sites & "Red Puma" Sites?

The GOP's convention in Tampa runs from August 27th  to August 30th. If on August 31st Sarah Palin is not the presidential nominee (or perhaps more unlikely the vice-presidential nominee) as a result of a brokered convention, then a repeat, to a substantial degree of the PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) phenomenon of 2008 is on the cards.

Hilary Clinton had a massive following, including many dedicated female supporters who, desperately unhappy with what they saw as Clinton being cheated out of the nomination created numerous PUMA blogs.

These blogs ran a serious anti-Obama campaign thought the election period and a few still exist today and it is quite feasible they will be recreated should President Obama lose in November. One would expect to see a substantial number of Hillary 2106 sites mid-November no matter how many times Clinton denies she will run.

Similarly I am in little doubt that by September 1st a substantial number of "Red PUMA" sites will have sprung up in support of Palin, and some of them quite openly hostile to Romney should he be the nominee.

That Palin will not be seen as having been robbed  of the nomination by the GOP hierarchy, supported by the media, since she chose not to run, is of course a significant difference.

Of course, if there is a brokered convention, and Palin is seen as being denied the nomination by smoke filled room machinations, then the Palin supporters will explode. The most likely being they will sit the election out-even if she endorses Romney or whomever the nominee is.

However one only has to have a quick read of comments on various pro-Palin sites to see, that what appears to be a significant number, will not vote for Romney and, if he is the nominee, will be open to supporting the PUMA sites. This again, even if Palin supports the eventual nominee.

One thing is absolutely certain, if the GOP nominee loses to President Obama, then the day after the election the PUMA sites will be transformed into Palin 2016 sites and the left/right battle for the heart and soul of the GOP will have commenced.

Party Like It's1924.Coolidge's Free Market/Low Tax Growth Recipe Presaged Reagan's/Palin's

Wikipedia canvasses Calvin Coolidge's life and presidency. AT THIS LINK We can read of a life of probity, dedication to duty, loyalty to wife and family and to America.

We see a firm believer in reform where necessary, respect for minorities especially the Black community, and an absolute belief in the most free market, effectively regulated, business environment. A steadfast hold to the constitution, and small government, with states rights holding the paramount place vis a vis government intervention.

His tax cut regimen, encouragement of sunrise industry, and retirement of government debt presaged an equally prosperous time created by Reaganite policies which echoed Coolidge's. The current recession, and the unimaginable build up of government debt in trying to reflate the economy, instead of leaving market forces to  do the job, shows that the lessons of the Coolidge/Reagan, and to some degree the second Clinton term, have been neglected to unimaginable cost.

The recipe for recovery is as it has always been, sound money, sound taxation, a caring safety net, low inflation and a balanced budget. This is what Palin calls "the common sense solutions that the country needs" but which the current administration seems deaf to. Hopefully the point will be reached where an administration that believes in, and implements, the Coolidge/Reagan policies, will be swept into office-before it is too late.

Coolidge's Economic Policies (emphasis mine);

During Coolidge's presidency the United States experienced the period of rapid economic growth known as the "Roaring Twenties". He left the administration's industrial policy in the hands of his activist Secretary of Commerce, Herbert Hoover, who energetically used government auspices to promote business efficiency and develop airlines and radio.[108]

With the exception of favoring increased tariffs, Coolidge disdained regulation, and carried about this belief by appointing commissioners to the Federal Trade Commission and the Interstate Commerce Commission who did little to restrict the activities of businesses under their jurisdiction.[109] The regulatory state under Coolidge was, as one biographer described it, "thin to the point of invisibility."[110]

Coolidge's economic policy has often been misquoted as "generally speaking, the business of the American people is business" . Some have criticized Coolidge as an adherent of the laissez-faire ideology, which they claim led to the Great Depression.[111] On the other hand, historian Robert Sobel offers some context based on Coolidge's sense of federalism: "As Governor of Massachusetts, Coolidge supported wages and hours legislation, opposed child labor, imposed economic controls during World War I, favored safety measures in factories, and even worker representation on corporate boards. Did he support these measures while president? No, because in the 1920s, such matters were considered the responsibilities of state and local governments."[112]

[edit]

Taxation

Coolidge's taxation policy was that of his Secretary of the Treasury, Andrew Mellon: taxes should be lower and fewer people should have to pay them.[113] Congress agreed, and the taxes were reduced in Coolidge's term.[113] In addition to these tax cuts, Coolidge proposed reductions in federal expenditures and retiring some of the federal debt.[113] Act of 1924, which Coolidge's ideas were shared by the Republicans in Congress, and in 1924 Congress passed the Revenue   Act of 1924 reduced income tax rates and eliminated all income taxation for some two million people.[113]

They reduced taxes again by passing the Revenue Acts of 1926 and 1928, all the while continuing to keep spending down so as to reduce the overall federal debt.[114] By 1927, only the richest 2% of taxpayers paid any federal income tax.[114] Although federal spending remained flat during Coolidge's administration, allowing one-fourth of the federal debt to be retired, state and local governments saw considerable growth, surpassing the federal budget in 1927.[115]
