Putin's Call For USA To Agree Not To Attack Syria Echoes Kennedy's Pledge Not To Invade Cuba And Could Leave Assad Regime In Power Permanently

RT reports:Putin: Syria chem arms handover will work only if US calls off strike: LINK

"Of course, all of this will only mean anything if the United States and other nations supporting it tell us that they're giving up their plan to use force against Syria. You can’t really ask Syria, or any other country, to disarm unilaterally while military action against it is being contemplated," President Putin said on Tuesday.

This is exactly the same situation as the ending phase of the Cuban missile crisis where the Kennedy administration gave room for Khruschev to save face, and avert a nuclear war, by making concessions to the other side.

In that crisis Kennedy agreed to removing nuclear missiles from Turkey and to committing the USA to not invading Cuba. The latter  concession has been in place ever since and the Castro regime has stayed in power, despite every economic and CIA attempt to undermine it.

Putin is presenting a similar face-saving exit from the self-imposed Syria embarrassment for President Obama by making the same sort of offer. If Obama makes the agreement not to bomb (or invade one presumes) Syria then, like Castro, the regime has every chance of continuing in power indefinitely.

This may or may not bring peace to Syria by the current regime's Russian backed victory of the rebels but it would mark a terrible diminution America, an embarrassment to the Obama administration from which it, and its 2016 candidate, may never recover from and a magnficiation of Putin's strength and of Russia's perceived power and  role in the world.

If all that comes to pass, it would mark, in utter contrast to the Kennedy administration, the Obama administration as being, totally naive and incompetent and having created for itself a totally unnecessary self-inflicted wound. Palin must be chortling up in Wasilla as her 2008 warnings are proven over and over- and she's the idiot??
