UPDATE: PPP polling (Dem) finds that in North Carolina Huckabee comes second only to Trump in favorability rating

Perhaps the most striking finding from this poll is that not only does Trump lead the GOP field, he also has the highest favorability rating of any of the candidates in it. 62% see him favorably to 30% with a negative opinion. No one else has over a 60% favorability- Huckabee comes closest at 58/21

Huckabee: “More Readiness On My Part” To Support Trump Than Others If I Lose

Mike Huckabee says if he’s not the Republican nominee, he will likely support front-runner Donald Trump before other candidates in the race.

The comments by the former Arkansas governor are the latest in a string of praise for The Donald. On Wednesday, the author of God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy said, “it very well could be Donald Trump may be the Republican nominee and if he is then we need to unite behind him.”

Huckabee says Trump is just saying what people are thinking.

“I do think he’s touched a nerve with people, he’s saying things at the podium that a lot people might say around their closeted circle of intimate friends and he’s kinda giving them a sense of boldness that maybe they’re right to believe in and say,” Huckabee said on the Alan Colmes Show this week.

Huckabee noted he deeply admired Trump.

“That’s fine, I admire him, I think frankly there’s a more readiness on my part if I don’t make it I’d support him before a lot of people,” he said. “Because at least with him there’s an authenticity. And you know, he may say some bold things, but he deep down knows that if were the president he’d have to surround himself with people who fill in blanks for him and I respect that.”

Livable with-can do no harm imo. If that's what the Boss wanted that's OK with me. VP candidates have no Electoral influence on the outcome so if the optics worked-that's fine.

I also judge politicians as to their attitude to Gov.Palin. Huckabee was very supportive in 2008 and I have not seen any negativity from him towards her.

    That would be my preference to of course:-) All I am saying, as per below, if Trump picked Huckabee (and there are good reasons to do so) it would not affect my decision to vote for Trump in the slightest. If he picked Rubio or Fiorina or Christie I would have to vote with the aid of a clothes peg

    I very much doubt Huckabee would run for president after 4-8 years as Trump's VP. Too old by then and no doubt the party would be looking for renewal at that point

    he's got the gift of the gab-and could shore up some Evangelicals esp in Iowa in the general election. He comes across as avuncular and wouldn't scare the horses in the VP roll

    After 8 yrs as VP Huckabee would be younger than Trump is now . Huckabee is 60. VP Biden is 73.

      Biden's not running. I think the "renewal" thing is what the GOP voters would be looking for at that point. If Huckabee assisted in bringing 8 years of a Trump presidency well he would deserve his shot at it and it woudl be up to the voters to decide at that point. It is the current point that needs addressing
