Part of Donald Trump's plan to renew, restore and recover America "make America great again' involves stopping unfair trade practices by China. This would help restore international fair trade competition through making an example of "dumping" practices, particularly by China.
All those countries that are throwing up their hands in despair at the thought of a President Trump would sing a different tune if their own manufacturers were allowed to be competitive and their home industries could regenerate with the concomitant result of more employment and renewed communities.
Trump's plan, which is simply common sense and long-time practice was attacked, not only by the Democratic party but, oddly by the organs of the business community. I have included links to just some of the media articles which decry Trump's plan. "Trade wars would result" "A tariff is a tax on US consumers"advised Cruz/Rubio/Bush (to which Trump, rightly, countered that China is in no position to initiate a trade war with America.)
And...."The other thing about this plan is it’s not exactly legal. You could expect China to challenge it in the WTO and possibly win, but it would certainly retaliate by closing its markets to US firms through higher tariffs of its own or outright bans. "
You get the picture. Well here's what the Obama administration just did-not Trump's 45% "which will start a trade war" but; (LINK)
"US raises China steel taxes by 522%
The US raised its import duties on Chinese steelmakers by more than five-fold after accusing them of selling their products below market prices.
The taxes specifically apply to Chinese-made cold-rolled flat steel, which is used in car manufacturing, shipping containers and construction.
The US Commerce Department ruling comes amid heightened trade tensions between the two sides over several products, including chicken parts.
Steel is an especially sensitive issue.
US and European steel producers claim China is distorting the global market and undercutting them by dumping its excess supply abroad.
A separate filing by major US steelmakers to the International Trade Commission is looking to completely ban all Chinese steel imports.
The US steel industry claims that around 12,000 workers have been laid off in the past year because of unfair Chinese competition."
