Michele Bachman is the media latest flavor of the week Republican-Herman Cain seems to have been dumped as quickly as he was boosted up. Some Palin fans believe this is all part of a Lame Steam Media plot to either keep Palin out of the race or, if she does enter Bachman is seen as a useful "stalking horse" taking votes from Palin for the media's true favorite Mitt Romney.
Be that as it may or may not what is indisputable is that, should Bachman actually get the presidential, or more likely vice-presidential slot the current stroking would, immediately upon nomination, turn into a horrendous witch hunt, like Palin has been subjected to for over two years.
The difference will be that Palin's two years of torment will be, in Bachman's case, squeezed into the four months or so of the campaign. It won't be a pretty sight and Bachman can have no idea what would be in store for her, her husband and her children. Not only her genetic children but all those foster children will have every moment of their lives scrutinized intensely. If Palin's relatively small brood was dragged through the media mill heaven only knows what the media will do with the over 20 foster children whose lives will be thrown open and every controversial thing they have ever done will be sheeted home to Bachman's parenting.
Some in the media can't hold back and the digging has started. here is a bit from the first up attacks-this from The Daily Beast article titled "Michele Bachman's unrivalled extremism"( how's that for a starters gun signal of what is to come?)
A few dozen people showed up at the town hall for the April 9 event, and Bachmann greeted them warmly. But when, during the question and answer session, the topic turned to gay marriage, Bachmann ended the meeting 20 minutes early and rushed to the bathroom. Hoping to speak to her, Arnold and another middle-aged woman, a former nun, followed her. As Bachmann washed her hands and Arnold looked on, the ex-nun tried to talk to her about theology. Suddenly, after less than a minute, Bachmann let out a shriek. "Help!" she screamed. "Help! I'm being held against my will!"
And this from the vicious Little Green Footballs site
"It’s been frustrating to watch the media suddenly falling all over themselves to proclaim Michele Bachmann (R-Mars) a “serious candidate,” because I’ve been keeping track of her sheer lunacy for years, and Bachmann is so extreme she makes even Rick Santorum look sane."
The New Republic, after dragging her husband into the fray provides this nugget;
"In 2004, Bachmann gave a speech warning that same-sex marriage would lead to schoolchildren being indoctrinated into homosexuality. She wanted everyone to know, though, that she doesn't hate gay people. "Any of you who have members of your family in the lifestyle, we have a member of our family that is," she said. "This is not funny. It's a very sad life. It's part of Satan, I think, to say that this is gay."
PZ Meyer,who I have a real distaste for at the execrable Pharyngula site where arrogance of a level I have never seen before resides gets straight into it:
"Clever and Insane
When Ronald Reagan was president, I thought we'd hit bottom and could not possibly get worse. When George W. Bush was president, I was astonished that we'd sunk even lower, but hoped that this was the worst we could get. President Michele Bachmann is the nightmare that exceeds even that."
This is just a taste from those media people who are blowing their cover and jumping the gun from the cover story they have been pushing "A Romney/Bachman team will be formidable" And "Bachman comes out from Palin's shadow and closes the door on Palin." The mask has slipped and the worst thing that could ever happen to Bachman and her family would be to actually receive either nomination.
Palin on the other hand has withstood everything that could possibly be thrown at her and is Teflon coated and the only potential nominee who could spend all the campaign discussing the issues without the distractions of the dirt the dumpster divers would dig up on Romney and his religion and Bachman and whatever mass of sensational stuff they would uncover-whether true or not.
Here are just a few first up hit pieces as collated by Memeorandum
Here is the execrable "Wonkette" starting to crank up the venom:
One of Michele Bachmann’s many “special talents” is that she is able to interpret an attempt at friendly discussion by some constituents as a traumatizing individual-size terrorist attack on her person. While running for state senate back in 2005, Bachmann met with voters to discuss various issues, including her opposition to gay marriage. After the talk, a lesbian couple who happened to be in attendance “wanted to discuss certain issues further,” which in Michele Bachmann’s mind sounded more like “advanced stage lesbian cannibal robot brain invasion.” So Michele did the normal thing for a politician to do when a voter asks her a question, and she ran away screaming.
