John Nolte at Breitbart's 'BigGovernment' has it exactly right. In discussing why John Ziegler is wrong to say Palin can't defeat President Obama he makes the clear,cogent and correct point that none of the other prospective candidates (including Romney) have been subjected top the 'scrutiny' (character assassination more the word actually) that Palin has.
No matter how much they praise or puff up any of the candidates, especially what is sure to be their new flavor of the month Michele Bachman after the GOP debate, whichever candidate, except Palin, emerges as the GOP nominee, will be subject to what Palin has been for over two years, in a matter of a few months-and will be destroyed.
Palin, especially after the media gave it their best shot after two years of building to a crescendo by having two books out attacking Palin and the release of 13,000 emails, is Teflon. Bachman is an Xmas turkey (metaphorically of course but said in sadness rather than in a negative manner) which the media would baste and wolf down with rapacious venom. She is no doubt made of stern stuff but will be hit with a tidal wave that she can have no imagining of its height and force.
That applies to of course to any of the other relative unknowns who are ready and waiting to have their persona shaped by the leftist media. For Romney and Huntsman their religion will be attacked mercillesly too.
But let Nolte explain what is coming;
What Ziegler and those who agree with him need to understand is that the MSM doesn’t intend to let anyone beat Barack Obama. They intend to pull a “Palin” — to decimate and salt the earth behind — whoever threatens the re-election of Their Precious One. Barack Obama is a failed president. Period. If 2012 is what it should be — a referendum on the incumbent — he loses in a landslide. Therefore, the White House and their MSM allies intend to do everything they can to ensure 2012 is all about toxifying the GOP nominee — regardless of who it is — into someone who cannot be elected. Anyone who thinks the MSM will take it easier on a nominee not named Palin hasn’t been paying attention.
The bottom line is that whoever our candidate is, beating Obama is not the existential problem — our candidate must beat the media, and other than Newt Gingrich (a victim of unforced errors), there’s not a single announced or potential Republican candidate who’s dealt with a tenth of what Obama’s MSM Palace Guards intend to hurl their way — except Sarah Palin. And not only has the Governor survived this unprecedented onslaught, but the past few months have shown that she understands this threat and is actively and effectively working on ways to overcome it.
